Volunteer in Thailand

If you like to travel and are passionate about environmental conservation, planting trees, and combating climate change, we need you! Plant A Tree Today (PATT) Foundation is happy to have enthusiastic volunteers from around the world join us here in Thailand. In our Environmental Outreach and Advocacy programme, you would primarily do community and school outreach to inspire others to plant more trees and take action to care for our environment. In our EcoKids program, you will help supervise kids in our environmental school holiday camp. With the help of volunteers placed around the country, we can get all of Thailand moving toward a greener way of life.

Environmental Outreach & Advocacy

Volunteers in this program primarily do community and school outreach to inspire others to plant more trees and take action to care for our environment. Training is provided, however, once in placement, daily supervision is much less intensive. Therefore, volunteers need to be self-starters. Specific activities will vary from location to location, but typically include:

  • Developing and conducting workshops for the community on environmental issues
  • Arranging and conducting school tree planting trips, establishment of tree nurseries
  • Giving presentations to schools on environmental education topics
  • Leading environmental campaigns in your area

During your stay you will learn about the importance of Community Forestry and see how important information can be, especially to those living in more remote areas with limited access.

EcoKids Camp Leader

Help supervise a group of 6-12 year olds on our EcoKids Camp in Bangkok. The aim of the camp is to ensure children gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the environment and nature. The hands-on aspect of the program means that kids start to understand the tangible, very real way we impact the Earth. This hopefully will lead to the younger generations having a personal connection to nature and the motivation to make responsible environmental decisions when they become the business leaders and policy makers of tomorrow.

Camp Activities can include but are not limited to:

  • Guided Nature Walks
  • Tree Planting
  • Wildlife Spotting
  • Recycling Activities
  • Science Museum
  • Outdoor Games

You will work under supervision of PATT staff and your role as one of the camp leaders will be to promote safety, kindness, and engage the children in the environmental lessons they are learning.

Schedule

Volunteers can join the Environmental Outreach & Advocacy program on the first Tuesday of every month. You should arrange to arrive in Bangkok on the day prior (Monday). Placements can last for 1, 2, or 3 months. Training begins on the first Tuesday of every month and lasts for 4 days. You will then have the weekend free in Bangkok and travel to your placement on Sunday night or Monday, depending on placement location and available transport. Training will include Thai language and culture, Introduction to PATT, Tree Planting & Community Forestry workshops, Health & Safety, Orientation to Bangkok, and personalised placement consultations.

EcoKids Camp Leaders have a more intensive program with only a one-week placement. You should arrive on the Sunday before the camp. The last work day is Friday and you are free to leave on Saturday. For three-day camps, placement dates are the same, however, you will spend your first couple days helping with the planning stages of the camp.
