Students from Anglo Singapore International School contribute to greener environment

Location: Phra Padaeng, Thailand
Date: 21st May 2015
No. of trees planted: 111 Trees

On Thursday, 21st of May, Anglo Singapore International School brought 34 of its students to Phra Padaeng, “Lungs of Bangkok”, to plant trees with PATT. There was a busy, but rewarding day ahead, and students really did their best to help our environment.

Community in Phra Padaeng kindly received the students with refreshing butterfly pea juice to prepare them for hard work and learning about nature. Then the students divided into two groups, and while one group went on an interesting educational nature trail around the forest in hope to see some of the huge monitor lizards, the other group learnt all about seeding and potting the trees. This time students were seeding the River Teak or Intsia Bijuga tree, which is an endangered tree species growing in brackish waters with strong wood for construction and flooring, and with beautiful pink pea-like flowers. These trees will definitely grow for a few hundred years. But for potting the students used Shoe Button tree which is an important medicinal plant. So, altogether students did a really important work while learning all about growing your own tree.

After a short rest, it was time to plant the tree seedlings on a degraded patch of land near the forest. This was no easy task as students had to cross many water canals on the way to the planting site. And one shoe was lost in the mud on the way. But this was nothing that dedicated students couldn’t manage. They rolled up their sleeves and planted 111 trees together. At PATT we are really happy that the new little forest will now grow in the “Lungs of Bangkok” thanks to the students from Anglo Singapore International School. And in a few years this forest will be able to provide cleaner water and air to the city. We call this environmental job well done!
